Hospital Staff - Veterinary Technicians
Veterinary Technician Samantha Lackey says she derives great satisfaction from playing a role in the care of our clients' pets as well as the family-like atmosphere among staff members. "The staff at Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital is wonderful and fun to work with," she says. "I love that I am able to spend each day helping all of the different animals in numerous situations, and feeling at the end of the day that I have helped in some way care for these pets."
At home, Samantha has an 8-month-old Springer Spaniel named Ralphie that she enjoys taking to dog dock diving trials. She also has an 8-year-old Maine Coon Cat named Buddy. Beyond her work and pets, she also enjoys playing soccer, working out, going out dancing, running, and spending time with friends and family.
Technician's Assistant Kevin Statchen has been with Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital since November of 2009 and employed in the pet care field since 2007.
Beyond being able to work in an environment dedicated to helping companion animals, Kevin says he enjoys the unique challenges that the animal care field provides. He also is a pet owner and has one (feisty) female domestic longhair cat named Gangie and a male domestic longhair cat named Boris that Kevin describes as patient and sweet.
Kevin's hobbies include bike riding, road trips, playing video games, and reading.
Technician's Assistant Kerry McGrath has been with Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital since February of 2010 and has been employed in the pet care field since 2007.
An avid pet person, Kerry says that her work provides a great opportunity to mix her love of animals with her day-to-day work-life. "I enjoy working at this veterinary hospital because we see a wide variety of animals," she says, "including birds, small animals, and reptiles, which I have a lot of experience with."
Kerry also manages a wide array of pets at home, which include two cats, a Jenday Conure, a Chinchilla, five Gerbils, one Hamster, five toads, and two Beta fish. Her free time is spent watching movies, working out, playing Wii, cooking, reading, visiting museums, travel and pet sitting and grooming.
Veterinary assistant Gino Masi, who has been with us since May of 2011, said he is dedicated to “hard work.” That’s one of the reasons why he’s able to divide his time between caring for the pets at the hospital while also attending high school. Gino is in his senior year.
His responsibilities include assisting with drawing blood and laser treatments. “I like working at Roaring Brook because I love animals and everyone I work with is funny and kind,” Gino said of the atmosphere at the hospital. “It’s a great environment.”
Gino spends his free time fishing, hiking and playing on his high school lacrosse team. He has a cat named Casper.
Lisa Carroll plays a dual role at Roaring Brook. She is a client/patient advocate and a veterinary technician’s assistant. She’s been with us since October of 2011 and has a certificate of Veterinary Assistance from Tunxis Community College.
Lisa’s responsibilities include speaking to clients to obtain their pet’s complete history, assisting in the exam rooms and making sure that all the needs of our clients and their pets are met.
“I love working with all the animals, dogs, cats, birds and reptiles,” Lisa said about her daily responsibilities at Roaring Brook. “We all do whatever we can to help our clients and their pets.” Her most important attribute? “I’m friendly and stay positive in any situation.”
Lisa has an orange tabby cat named Nemo and a two-year old chinchilla named Chewy. She enjoys going to the gym, baking, watching movies and going to the beach.
