Dr. Candace Hersey-Benner

General practitioner at Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Candace Hersey-Benner has professional interests in medicine and surgery for exotic pets.

Dr. Hersey-Benner grew up in Maine and attended Bates College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in 1999. She continued her education at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Along with exotic pet medicine and surgery, her professional interests include dermatology and canine sports medicine. She also holds a certificate of internship in exotic medicine.

A member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians and the Association of Avian Veterinarians, Dr. Hersey-Benner also participates in the annual Can-Am International Dog Sled Race as a trail veterinarian.

Dr. Hersey-Benner and her husband, Dan, have a large family of pets, including two dogs, Molly and Mae, a pair of Australian Shepherds, four cats named Murray, Mina, Mac and Spud, and two rabbits, Minh and Moose, along with a number of Oriental fire-belly toads. When she’s not at the hospital or caring for her pets, Dr. Hersey-Benner enjoys refinishing antique furniture, reading and gardening. She also loves outdoor activities such as camping and mountain biking.
